Personal Loans in Virginia
SET Financial is a free matching service that helps Virginia residents connect with third-party lenders who make all credit decisions and set all rates and terms.
Get StartedSET Financial is a lead-connection service for new loan requests, not the lender. Not everyone who applies will be matched or approved.
Connecting Virginia Residents with Lenders
SET Financial is not a lender in Virginia. We are a free connection service that matches Virginia residents with third-party lenders in our network, including options for people with bad, thin, or no credit. Submitting a request is not a guarantee of approval, and the lender you connect with makes every credit decision and sets all rates and terms.
An installment loan gives you a lump sum you repay in fixed, scheduled payments over a set period, which can make budgeting more predictable than open-ended credit. Virginia residents commonly use personal and installment loans for things like unexpected car or home repairs, medical or dental bills, consolidating higher-cost debt, moving costs, or bridging a short gap between paychecks. The right amount, rate, and term depend entirely on the lender you are matched with and your individual situation.

Who the Network Works With in Virginia
Bad credit
A past-due bill or a low score does not automatically disqualify you. Some lenders in our network consider applicants with bad credit, though approval, rates, and terms are always set by the lender, and approval is never guaranteed.
Thin or no credit
If you have little or no credit history, we can still try to connect you with lenders who look at more than a traditional score, such as income and banking activity. The lender decides whether to offer a loan and on what terms.
Self-employed or 1099 income
Freelancers, contractors, and gig workers can request a match. Lenders may ask for bank statements or other proof of income instead of standard pay stubs when reviewing your request.
Fixed income
If you receive Social Security, disability, retirement, or other steady fixed income, you can still submit a request. The lender will weigh your income and ability to repay when deciding whether to make an offer.
Virginia Rates and Your Protections
Consumer lenders operating in Virginia are licensed and supervised by the Bureau of Financial Institutions, a division of the Virginia State Corporation Commission. Under the Virginia Fairness in Lending Act of 2020, which took effect January 1, 2021, many consumer finance loans are subject to a 36% annual rate cap, and the law applies uniform rules whether a loan is made online or in a store. SET Financial does not set rates. Your actual APR, fees, and terms are determined solely by the third-party lender and disclosed before you sign.
You can verify whether a lender is licensed in Virginia through the State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Financial Institutions, and you should always review your loan agreement to see the exact APR, fees, payment schedule, and total cost before you accept.
