SET Financial is a lead-connection service for new loan requests, not the lender. Not everyone who applies will be matched or approved.

Connecting New Jersey Residents with Lenders

SET Financial is a loan matching service, not a lender, and we do not make credit decisions in New Jersey. We connect New Jersey residents with third-party lenders in our network who review each request, including borrowers with bad credit or thin credit files. Every lender independently sets its own rates, terms, and approval decisions.

An installment loan gives you a set amount of money up front that you repay over time in scheduled, usually fixed, payments. New Jersey residents commonly use personal and installment loans for things like covering emergency expenses, consolidating higher-cost debt, handling car or home repairs, managing medical bills, or bridging a gap between paychecks. SET Financial does not fund these loans. We simply help match your request to lenders who may be able to help.

Who the Network Works With in New Jersey

Bad credit

A low credit score does not automatically rule you out. Some lenders in our network consider requests from New Jersey borrowers with poor credit, though each lender decides on its own and approval is never guaranteed.

Thin or no credit

If you have a limited or nonexistent credit history, certain lenders may still review your request by looking at factors like income and banking activity. Terms are set entirely by the lender.

Self-employed or 1099 income

Freelancers, gig workers, and contractors in New Jersey can request a match. Lenders may ask for bank statements or other proof of income instead of traditional pay stubs, and each lender sets its own requirements.

Fixed income

Residents on Social Security, disability, retirement, or other fixed income can submit a request. Some lenders consider steady fixed income, but the decision and terms rest with the lender.

New Jersey Rates and Your Protections

New Jersey has a strict usury environment. Consumer lenders that make loans of $50,000 or less for personal, family, or household use are generally licensed under the New Jersey Consumer Finance Licensing Act (N.J.S.A. 17:11C-1 et seq.) and overseen by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. Under state usury law, the general civil rate ceiling on a written loan contract is 16 percent, and charging 30 percent or more to an individual can constitute criminal usury, though various lender types and loan categories fall under separate rules and exemptions. SET Financial does not set rates. Your actual APR, fees, and terms are set solely by the third-party lender you are matched with, and you should confirm them before you sign.

Before you accept any offer, confirm the lender's New Jersey licensing status with the Department of Banking and Insurance and review the exact APR, fees, and repayment terms written in your loan agreement.

Regulator: New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (Division of Banking, Office of Consumer Finance).

Quick answers. For more, see our full FAQ page.

Does SET Financial lend money in New Jersey?

No. SET Financial is a loan matching service, not a lender. We connect New Jersey residents with third-party lenders who make all credit decisions and set all rates and terms. We do not fund loans or make approval decisions.

Who regulates consumer installment lenders in New Jersey?

Consumer lenders making loans of $50,000 or less for personal, family, or household use are generally regulated by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance under the New Jersey Consumer Finance Licensing Act (N.J.S.A. 17:11C-1 et seq.). You can verify a lender's license with the Department.

What interest rate can a lender charge in New Jersey?

New Jersey has a strict usury environment. The general civil ceiling on a written loan contract is 16 percent, and charging an individual 30 percent or more can be criminal usury, but different lender types and loan categories have separate rules and exemptions. Your actual APR is set by the lender, so always confirm it on your agreement.

Can I get matched with bad credit in New Jersey?

Possibly. Some lenders in our network consider New Jersey borrowers with bad or thin credit. However, SET Financial cannot guarantee approval, and each lender independently decides whether to make an offer and on what terms.

How do I confirm my loan terms are legitimate?

Review the APR, fees, and repayment schedule written in your loan agreement before signing, and confirm the lender's licensing status with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. The lender, not SET Financial, is responsible for the terms of your loan.
